My mother is an elementary school administrator and was a teacher for many years, so I have always found time to help in her school and classroom. It helps that I love working with children and seeing that "light bulb" go off when they FINALLY grasp a concept. There are so many ways that you can volunteer in your local schools. Whether you are helping kindergarteners with their reading or tutoring a high schooler in math, there are so many different ways you can give back and help in a school near you.

Why should you volunteer in a school?

Because it can help to relieve stress, and the children are simply amazing. Working with children teaches you to be patient, and you are never lacking in entertainment, especially when working with younger children. Because you get the joy of making someone happy, and it makes you feel needed and appreciated. Because all children can sympathize with you about homework, and understand when you are having a bad day.  But most of all, because working with children and teens teaches you to enjoy the little things in life, and you get to make an impact in a child's life.
